Youth discuss social welfare

Dar es Salaam. The youth from all over the country met in Dar es Salaam yesterday during a workshop to discuss the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and propose improvements of children’s welfare in Tanzania. During the workshop, which was organised by Children Dignity Forum (CDF), participants complained about some Members of Parliament (MPs) who were unwilling to discuss matters with representatives of children councils.

ESRF plans to initiate global development agenda process

THE Economic and Social Research Foundation (ESRF) plans to initiate an inclusive consultations process on the future global development agenda. “The consultation process needs to address the new and emerging issues and should be inclusive, balanced, bottom-up and broad based dialogue,” remarked Dr Oswald Mashindano from ESRF at a press conference held yesterday in Dar es Salaam.

Arusha Declaration on Sustainable Development

Representatives from more than 40 African countries gathered at a United Nations-backed conference in Arusha, Tanzania, to discuss the region’s strategy to achieve sustainable development and come up with an integrated strategy for the region to encourage environmental initiatives. The meeting led to the Arusha Declaration on Africa's Post Rio+20 Strategy for Sustainable Development, calling on Africa to capitalize on the opportunities presented by Rio+20. To that end, the conference announced a number of new initiatives on the green economy, ecosystems, land management and biodiversity. Delegates also agreed to form a common position to ensure Africa’s participation in the climate talks to take place in Doha, Qatar, in December. AMCEN was supported by the UN Delivering as One in Tanzania.
